01

Confirm Eligibility

CDCP is intended for eligible Canadian residents who do not have access to private dental insurance and meet income and tax filing requirements.

02

Bring Your Details

Once approved, bring your CDCP coverage information to your dental appointment so the team can help review coverage and possible out-of-pocket costs.

03

Ask Before Treatment

CDCP may not cover the full fee for every service. Always ask what is covered, what may need preauthorization, and what you may need to pay directly.

Who May Qualify

CDCP eligibility basics.

Eligibility is determined by the Government of Canada, not by the dental office. These are the core requirements patients should review before applying or renewing.

You do not have access to private dental insurance through work, pension, school, a professional organization, or a purchased group plan.

You and your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable, have filed taxes in Canada for the previous year.

Your adjusted family net income is below $90,000.

You are a Canadian resident for tax purposes.

What CDCP May Cover

Coverage can include preventive, basic, major, surgical, and sedation services.

The CDCP helps pay a portion of eligible oral health care costs. Some services are covered without preauthorization, while others require approval before treatment.

Exams, emergency exams, and dental X-rays

Cleanings, scaling, fluoride, and sealants

Fillings and other basic restorative treatments

Root canal treatment and infection-related care

Gum disease treatment and periodontal services

Dentures, denture repairs, and some crown-related services

Extractions and other eligible oral surgery services

Nitrous oxide and some sedation services when clinically appropriate

Co-payments & Costs

CDCP coverage depends on income and the service fee schedule.

The Government of Canada lists CDCP coverage levels based on adjusted family net income. Patients may also have additional charges if a provider's fee is higher than the CDCP reimbursement amount, or if a treatment is not covered.

Adjusted family net income

Below $70,000

CDCP may cover 100% of eligible costs at CDCP established fees.

Adjusted family net income

$70,000-$79,999

CDCP may cover 60%; patient co-payment may be 40%.

Adjusted family net income

$80,000-$89,999

CDCP may cover 40%; patient co-payment may be 60%.

CDCP Questions

Common questions from Innisfil, Barrie, and Simcoe patients.

Is the CDCP free dental care?

Not always. The CDCP may cover a portion of eligible treatment costs. Some patients may still have a co-payment or additional charges depending on income, CDCP fees, and the treatment recommended.

Can I use CDCP if I live in Barrie or elsewhere in Simcoe County?

Yes. Patients from Innisfil, Barrie, and nearby Simcoe County communities can contact Alcona Family Dentistry to discuss care if they have active CDCP coverage.

Does CDCP cover every dental service?

No. CDCP coverage depends on the service, clinical need, frequency limits, and whether preauthorization is required. We can help you understand what may apply before treatment begins.

Do I pay the full amount upfront?

For services covered by the CDCP, providers submit claims directly for reimbursement. Patients may still be responsible for co-payments or other amounts not covered by the plan.
